A rapid screening tool, the PDDBI-SV identifies Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) as defined in the DSM-IV-TR. It can be completed by parents or caregivers, and covers a wide spectrum of adaptive and maladaptive behaviors, and is useful in multiple applications.
The PDDBI-SV items assess non-vocal, social problem behaviors typically reported in children with Autism, as well as social behaviors that are present in typically-developing children, but are absent, delayed or occurring at a much lower rate in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
PDDBI-SV Goals
- To provide a rapid screening tool to aid in diagnosis of possible ASD
- To be useful for a younger age than offered by other instruments
- To cover a wide range of adaptive and maladaptive behaviors
- To provide a standardized score for an estimate of degree of severity,
as well as a degree of confidence - To be useful for multiple applications
The PDDBI-SV’s Social Deficit Score (SOCDEF) measures both the presence of inappropriate social behaviors, and the absence of appropriate social behaviors. The PDDBI-SV classwifies the SOCDEF score into one of six levels of severity. A suspect SOCDEF score indicates that a more in-depth assessment should be undertaken.
Standardization, Reliability and Validity
The standardization sample included 369 parent ratings for children in the Autism Spectrum, ranging in age from 1 year, 6 months to 12 years, 5 months. Children were diagnosed with the ADI-R (Stoelting Cat. No. 32895) and ADOS-G. Internal consistency alpha was .87, in the upper end of the moderate range.
Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive validity, and negative predictive validity of two groups (an ASD group and a normal group) were examined to investigate diagnostic validity. ROC analyses resulted in an AUC of .96, with a 95 per cent confidence interval of .92 to .99.
PDDBI-SV Software Portfolio Available
The PDDBI-SV:SP provides a brief interpretive report to help analyze client SOCDEF scores, and determine whether further testing is appropriate. Requires Windows XP/Vista/7; NTFS file system; CD-ROM drive for installation; Internet connection or telephone for software activation.
