Teaches sight-reading to non-readers of all ages.
- Age Range: May be used with non-readers of all ages, including adults.
- Level 1 Target: Grades K-1
- Level 2 Target: Grades 1-3
Regarded as "the one that works" by many educators, this highly successful program allows most non-readers to master basic reading skills. When phonics doesn't work, sight-reading does. The program uses the whole-word approach, with short steps, and progresses at each student's ability rate. Record-keeping system helps teachers develop IEP objectives. Can be used individually, or in small groups.
Level 1
Teaches 150 words from the Dolch Word List, and first grade readers. It introduces capitalization, punctuation, compound words and word endings (-s, -ed, -ing). Activities also reinforce visual memory of words, left-to-right reading/tracking, thinking and discrimination skills and combined words for story meaning.
Level 2
For students who have successfully completed Level 1, Level 2 provides continued one-on-one lessons for those students not yet ready for a more traditional reading approach. In addition to reinforcing the words from Level 1, Level 2 introduces 200 new words, including compound words. It also introduces new graphics, and adolescent characters. Comprehension focuses on attention to the meaning within the stories.
