The Continuous Visual Memory Test (CVMT) is effective with patients with unilateral right hemisphere CVA and severe head trauma, as well as individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. It reduces the confounding influence of verbal encoding strategies by using complex, ambiguous designs and a recognition format to measure visual learning and memory. The CVMT format also eliminates drawing tasks, and restricts the verbal labeling required by other tests that use simplistic geometric figures and common objects.

Eliminates the motor responses required by drawing tasks.

The CVMT is effective with patients with unilateral right hemisphere CVA and severe head trauma, as well as individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. It reduces the confounding influence of verbal encoding strategies by using complex, ambiguous designs and a recognition format to measure visual learning and memory. The CVMT format also eliminates drawing tasks, and restricts the verbal labeling required by other tests that use simplistic geometric figures and common objects.

The CVMT uses three tasks to assess Visual Memory:

  1. AcquisitionUses 112 design, presented at two-second intervals, to assess recognition memory by discriminating “new” from “repeated” stimuli
  2. Delayed RecognitionMeasures retrieval from long-term storage, after a 30-minute delay, by distinguishing “old” stimuli from perceptually-similar stimuli
  3. Visual DiscriminationDistinguishes Visual Discrimination deficits from Visual Memory problems

Expanded normative data for older adults is included, as well as normative data for 778 U.S. and Canadian children. Revised Scoring Form incorporates Total Score cutoffs, by age group, for the Delayed Recognition Task.

The complete CVMT Kit includes a Manual, Manual Supplement, Stimulus Cards and 50 Scoring Forms.
