Components of the Test

The CASE-MH includes 8 scales to quickly assess symptoms and issues of the most frequently occurring mental health conditions, including an in-depth evaluation of ADHD. The instrument consists of 98 scale items, 42 ADHD subscale items endorsed on a five-point scale, plus an additional 42 experimental items addressing Autism Spectrum Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder.

The CASE-MH test comprises two main groupings of scales: the Clinical Scales and the ADHD Extended Subscales.

Clinical Scales:

  1. ADHD
  2. Bipolar Disorder
  3. Depression
  4. Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  5. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  6. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
  7. Social Anxiety Disorder
  8. Substance Abuse

ADHD Extended Subscales:

  1. Inattention
  2. Concentration/Sustained Memory
  3. Organization
  4. Divided Attention
  5. Impulsivity
  6. Hyperactivity

Scoring is user-friendly and can be done rapidly due to a Yes/No response format for seven of the diagnostic scales and a Likert-like scale for the ADHD Scale and Subscales.

Clinical Scale raw scores are compared to cut-off scores that indicate the minimum score for risk of the disorder.  If the raw score is the same or larger than the Minimum score for risk of the disorder, the individual is noted as “Likely” to meet the criterion noted for the condition and further evaluation and investigation is indicated. If the score is below the Minimum score for risk of the disorder, the individual is “Unlikely” to meet criteria
for the condition.

ADHD Extended Subscale raw scores are converted to percentile scores.  The raw scores for Subscales 1 through 4 are summed for a Total Inattentive Score and corresponding Percentile Score, and raw scores for Subscales 5 and 6 are summed for a Total Hyperactive/Impulsive Score and corresponding Percentile Score.  Percentile Scores are also available for each subscale.

Included in the manual is a Reproducible Working Diagnosis Worksheet to assist in case conceptualization, treatment planning, identifying areas requiring further assessment, as well as insurance documentation.

Download our free CASE-MH Scorebook Tool Excel file, companion to the CASE-MH, and accelerate your workflow. Quickly calculate subscale raw scores, review item-level analysis, print a summary worksheet, and complete the Working Diagnosis Worksheet—all in one streamlined file.
