Provides a greater focus on ADHD, and now addresses comorbid disorders.
- Age Range: 6-18 years (parent and teacher scales) 8-18 years (self-report scales)
- Time: Approximately 20 minutes
Based on the solid findings, and key elements of its predecessor, the Conners’ Rating Scales-Revised (CRS-R), the Conners 3 has a greater focus on ADHD. It also addresses comorbid disorders such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder.
Clinicians will be able to not only identify a concern or disorder, they will now be able to receive guidance to help with intervention planning. The results from the Conners 3 can be used to develop, monitor and revise a child’s treatment plan. Intervention guidance enables clinicians to focus on the child’s individual needs, and customize treatment plans. Specialized guidance is available for those requiring specific intervention planning in an educational setting.
Like its predecessor, the new Conners 3 provides information from parents, teachers, and students themselves. This multi-informant perspective provides valuable clinical information and support for the diagnostic process. Discrepancies between informants can be critically examined, highlighting certain behaviors, and a comparison of results.
The Conners 3 has strengthened DSM-IV-TR connections, and clear applications in education settings that help identify children with clinical symptoms.
CONNERS 3 FULL-LENGTH FORMS
The Conners 3 now includes impairment items. The addition of impairment questions makes it much easier to determine how specific problems are impacting a child’s life at home, school and with friends.
The full-length forms are comprehensive tools that help determine a diagnosis through direct links to the DSM-IV-TR. The Parent Form includes 110 items, the Teacher Form includes 115 items, and the Self-Report Form includes 99 items. Executive Function items have been added to Parent and Teacher Forms. Parent and Self-Report Forms are available in Spanish.
In addition to the DSM-IV-TR symptom scales for ADHD, there are two new, complete DSM-IV-TR symptom scales for all informants, measuring Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder. These symptom scales aid in the identification of youth who require immediate attention and intervention, when they display severe, critical conduct behaviors such as weapon use and fire starting.
Three new validity scales (Positive Impression, Negative Impression and Inconsistency Index) increase the confidence in the informant’s responses. Screener items have been added for both anxiety and depression.
Reading Grade Levels for the Full-Length Forms are: Parent-4.9, Teacher-5.3 and Self-Report-3.0, making the forms clear, and easy to follow, for individuals with low reading levels.
CONNERS 3 SHORT FORMS
The Conners 3 Short Forms (available only in QuikScore format) are beneficial when the assessment is repeated, for monitoring success of treatment over time, and/or when administration time is limited. They include the strongest items from the Full-length Form’s empirical scales, and include positive and negative impression indices for all informants.
The Short Form Parent Form includes 43 items, the Teacher Form and Self-Report Form each include 39 items. Spanish versions are available for Parent and Self-Report Forms.
Reading Grade Levels for the Short Forms are: Parent-4.1, Teacher-4.3 and Self-Report-3.2, making them clear, and easy to follow, for those with low reading levels.
STANDARDIZATION SAMPLE
The Conners 3 has been co-normed with the all-new Conners CBRS, and provides contemporary normative data that reflects the demographics of diverse populations. The large normative data sample is representative of the general 2000 U.S. population in terms of ethnicity/race, gender and parent education level.
During the collection of data for the normative sample, approximately 6,000 pieces of data were received. This comprehensive sample allowed for a thorough evaluation of the psychometric properties of all versions of the assessment tools.
RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY
Conners 3 reliability studies include evaluation of internal consistency; test-retest reliability; inter-rater reliability, and standard error of measurement. Validity of the Conners 3 has been tested for factorial validity, relationships with other related measures, and the ability to differentiate between those with ADHD and those without a clinical diagnosis.
SCORING OPTIONS
Conners 3 assessments are available in hand-score and computer-score formats, though not all forms are available in both formats.
- QuikScore forms are quick, easy and straightforward, with paper and pencil administration. They can be hand scored or computer scored, and convert raw data scores to T-scores, providing a clear and easily understood results graph.
- Unlimited-use computerized scoring is now available for all Conners 3 forms. Computerized scoring allows quick, effortless generation of profile, extended and progress reports.
- Full-Form Response Booklets are used only with the Conners 3 scoring software (they cannot be hand-scored). Clear links to DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria, and indicators of eligibility for special education and related services, under IDEA 2004, are provided.
Report writing is also simplified with computer scoring, as words and phrases can be cut-and-pasted from software reports, to create customized documents.
The Conners 3 Software Kit includes 25 each of the Parent, Teacher and Self-Report Full-Form Response Booklets, 25 each of the Parent/Teacher/Self-Report Short QuikScore Forms, a Manual and unlimited-use Scoring Software for one computer.
The Conners 3 Hand-Score Kit includes 25 each of the Parent, Teacher and Self-Report Full and Short QuikScore Forms, and a Manual. Note: Response Booklets are Full Form, and are for use with Software Kit only. QuikScore Forms can be hand-scored, or computer scored.
