NeedlecraftTMmetal micro and stimulating electrodes are used by hundreds of research investigators worldwide. The configurations below are recommended for most acute and many awake animal experiments.
Tungsten electrodes with a low impedance (3 MegOhm) are recommended for use in recording from cells near the brain surface, while higher impedance (8 MegOhm) electrodes are ideal for recording from deeper structures. Electrodes with a blunt tip are more suited for recording from large or multiple cells, while finer tips are ideal for small cells.
Awake animal recording
A selection of tungsten electrodes (item nos. 50687-50690) is available for awake animal recording. These special electrodes employ a long thinned profile over the end 15 mm (60% of .010" shank diameter), have maximum dip insulation at the tip (.0035" thick epoxylite), and no pin, with the insulation stripped 20 mm at the termination.
